The season of what seems like fate continued for the A while they overcame what was an eight-point deficit late in the game for a 13-10 win against the Rangers in 11 innings Tuesday. It was the first time the A had won a game in eight or more innings after six innings since August 30, 1939 during a match in St. Louis.
Khris Davis was the one who crowned it all with a three-point circuit left in the 11th to put the A (59-43) ahead. It was his fourth round in the last three games, the 25th of the season, and his fifth straight game against the Rangers. Here is a mind-boggling statistic for trying to explain how incredible this return was. According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Rangers were 471-0 leading eight or more points in the seventh inning or later. This is not a typo. Four. Seven.
"Nothing that they surprise me anymore," Melvin said. "You've seen our late-inning at-bats.To get that margin and come back, it's just a stubborn band who believes that they'll win every game."
