Monday News of Beekman's nomination as permanent sports director adds a new title to his already extensive resume.
Beekman was appointed acting interim sports director for MSU's acting president John Engler on Feb. 5, about two weeks after Mark Hollis, former university athletic director, announced his retirement.
Prior to this, Beekman was Vice President and Secretary of the MSU Board of Directors.
Former Lansing Mayor David Hollister said Beekman was known for his work ethic, concentration and casual attitude.

Bill Beekman sent Finamore "three to five" text messages of support during the 2017-18 season, said Finamore. Finamore was hired last month to become Sexton High's new basketball coach.

According to Beekman's Facebook page, he spent most of his life in Michigan.
He attended Okemos High School, according to the page.
The page also states that Beekman attended Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois and the Kellogg School of Management, also in Evanston.
Before Beekman was appointed acting athletic director, he had been vice-president and secretary of the MSU board of directors since 2008.
Prior to that, Beekman was executive director of the Association of Sportsmen and Women. former MSU .
He joined MSU in 1995 as a director of MSU HealthTeam, according to a biography published on the university's website.
He was also assistant to the Dean of Planning and Finance at the College of Human Medicine and taught health policy and health financing at the College of Human Medicine and the College.
In addition to these roles, Beekman also served as Senior Advisor to the Vice President of Finance and Operations of MSU
. Beekman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Justice, Morality and Constitutional Democracy from James Madison MSU College, an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School, according to the MSU website.
He will lead an athletics department that has ranked in the 2016-17 year # 21 among all sports departments nationally in terms of revenue ( $ 126,021,377), according to USA Today.
According to a report posted on the MSU website, the Sports Department's estimated revenue for the 2017-2018 fiscal year is $ 127,680,449.

Beekman will oversee the 25 MSU Sports Teams of more than 800 student-athletes
