According to New Orleans Mayor Nancy Parker, presenter of New Orleans TV, died Friday in a fatal accident alongside pilot Franklin Augustus. The small plane fell into a field near New Orleans' Lakefront Airport, reports CBS affiliate WWL-New Orleans.
The award-winning anchor was working on the story of a pilot whose work included helping young people at risk when the fatal accident occurred. According to WWL-TV, Parker has spent 25 years as an audio-visual journalist with WVUE Fox 8 and has earned a reputation as a journalist covering hard news, but with a huge heart.
Parker was also active in the community as a speaker and active supporter of dozens of non-profit organizations and community groups.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a statement in which he expressed admiration for Parker's work as a journalist. "She told us directly, but with a combination of professionalism, intelligence, warmth and grace, we will never be able to experience it again. not only lost a five Emmy-winning journalist, nor a familiar, comforting face on television We lost a loving mother of three, a beautiful human being and a valued member of our community, "said Cantrell.
The governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, called the crash a "shocking loss" in a statement posted on Twitter. "Please, join your prayers to mine and Donna for Nancy's husband and his three children as they reconcile with this shocking loss," wrote Edwards.
WWL-TV reports that Parker and her husband, Glynn Boyd, met while covering a political race in Tuskegee, Alabama. Boyd, who now works as a public information officer, has also spent many years as a reporter on television.
"I remember getting it noticed when I walked in," Boyd said of his first meeting with Parker. "I noticed that she was really aggressive and that she was asking all the smart questions."
