Naomi Osaka called Megyn Kelly on Monday after the reporter questioned the tennis professional’s mental health issues. In a now deleted tweet, Osaka told Kelly to “do better” and stop spreading “negativity.”

The exchange began when Kelly weighed in on Tory commentator Clay Travis’ tweet about the Osaka press blitz, nearly two months after the Grand Slam winner sparked controversy over her media blackout.

“Since saying she was too introverted to talk to the media after tennis matches, Naomi Osaka started a reality show, A Barbie, and is now on the cover of the SI swimsuit issue,” he said. tweeted Travis.

Kelly responded, noting the recent Vogue Japan and Time Magazine covers.

The tweet caught the attention of Osaka, who responded directly to the 50-year-old former Fox News and NBC presenter.

“Since you’re a journalist I would have assumed you would take the time to research the deadlines for magazines, if you had you would have found out that I did all of my covers last year. Instead, your first reaction is to come up here and spit out negativity, make Megan better, “Osaka retorted. (Yes, she misspelled Kelly’s first name, to the delight of many on Twitter. .)

Osaka eventually deleted his tweet, but it was captured online.

Kelly doubled down and said Osaka was not “too socially anxious to deal” with the media.

“Poor @naomiosaka blocked me by shooting me (guess she’s only tough on the courts),” Kelly wrote. “The truth is she just doesn’t like [questions] she can’t control. Admit it. “

Osaka publicly revealed her mental health issues two months ago.

The four-time Grand Slam champion announced that she would not speak to the press, just days before participating in Roland Garros. After suffering backlash for her position, she withdrew and revealed that she “suffered from long periods of depression” since the 2018 US Open. Osaka then withdrew from Wimbledon to take “some time off” with friends and family “ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

Osaka is the subject of a new Netflix docusery, which was discontinued last week, and highlights the star’s private world – and her mind. In an Instagram post, she said she was “terrified” for her outing and the way it would be received.

“I hope there are pieces that people can relate to and maybe other pieces that would help people understand why I make the choices I make. If not, it’s cool too, it took me a while but i realize i can’t please everyone and i really don’t try to do that. when i go to sleep at night i can only hope i am at peace with myself and hope the same rings true for everyone reading this i am excited / nervous for you guys to see it and hope you will ‘will enjoy lol, “she wrote.
