Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka to be one of the cover stars for 2021 Illustrated sports Swimsuit problem.
AND unveiled the cover on Monday, featuring the reigning Australian Open champion:

Osaka spoke in a video interview with Illustrated sports on what it means to her to be the cover model (h / t Kerry Justich of Yahoo Life):
“I am so proud to be the first Japanese and Haitian woman to adorn one of the covers. I feel like this multicultural context is present in all the things I do. I try to integrate it into everything, so I hope, you see that. [of the magazine] kind of involves the people that I grew up admiring, so I remember Tyra Banks problem, I remember Beyonce’s. Growing up and watching so many amazing women grace this cover, to me, it’s like a dream. “
The 23-year-old recently withdrew from Roland Garros after the first round and did not compete at Wimbledon, citing mental health issues and a desire to spend time with friends and family.
Osaka is in Tokyo to prepare to represent the host country at the Olympics. She will participate in the women’s singles competition from July 24.
“We celebrate Naomi for her passion, strength and power to consistently break down barriers to equality, social justice and mental health,” Illustrated sports Swimwear editor MJ Day told TMZ Sports.
Illustrated sports has three different cover designs for this year’s issue. Osaka, rap star Megan Thee Stallion and transgender model, actress and activist Leyna Bloom each have their own covers.
The 2021 Illustrated sports The swimsuit number will be released on July 22.
