NASA OCO-3: Watch the plants grow and shine

[ad_1]

OCO-3 will be mounted on the International Space Station where it will measure both the atmospheric carbon and the activity of plants in orbit. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and emit a small amount of light. Measuring this "sun-induced fluorescence" will help scientists better understand the role of plants in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
