NASCAR moves Clash 2022 to LA Memorial Coliseum

NASCAR will return to Southern California early next year with an exhibition race to be held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The NASCAR Clash will travel from Daytona Beach, Fla. To the Coliseum on February 6, 2022. Officials will build a short, temporary quarter-mile asphalt track inside the home of the USC Trojans football team.

This will be the first time since 1979 that the Clash will not take place in Daytona. The race date is one week before the NFL Super Bowl and two weeks before the season opening Daytona 500 (February 20).

“Los Angeles is synonymous with major sporting and entertainment events, so we seized an innovative opportunity to showcase NASCAR at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of strategy and innovation. . “We are delighted to have the opportunity to take center stage in this market as we enter our 2022 season.”

Next Gen cars will be used in the race, marking the first competitive release of the new cars.

The stadium can accommodate 77,500 fans. Tickets go on sale September 16.

The rest of the 2022 Cup Series schedule is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
