NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – About 100 off-road motorcycles, motorcycles, ATVs and four-wheeled vehicles stormed Broadway in downtown Nashville on Saturday afternoon, leaving an inpatient officer.
Nashville Metropolitan Police Sergeant John Bourque was injured after being dragged by a four-wheeled vehicle that struck the police officer. Bourque was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with minor injuries and was released to recover at home.
The MNPD stated that motorists traveled in motion and parked vehicles before fleeing.
"I was just driving on Broadway, headed for the river, and I just saw a ton of mountain bikes and off-road motorcycles come down on the road and roll off," said a driver. Uber who wanted to remain anonymous.
"They were pretty wild … all over the place and they all wore the mask, and they were really rash," the driver added.
Downtown Nashville was particularly busy Saturday for the St. Patrick's Day weekend festivities.
The brotherly order of the police issued a statement on the incident:
"Our officers remain committed to their mission of promoting a safe and peaceful environment in Nashville, another example of the many risks and sacrifices associated with accomplishing this mission – a blatant disregard for the safety of our community and those We are confident that the MNPD will seek to identify and indict all those involved in this reckless and deliberate act of endangerment, and it is imperative that the Nashville leaders send a clear message to this community: public servants must be a priority well beyond the lawlessness that has caused many injuries to our agents and is costing the taxpayers of Nashville unnecessary thousands of dollars. "
