Felipe Nasr kept Cadillac in the lead in Roar qualifying, ensuring Action Express Racing will lead the field to green in Sunday’s Motul Pole Award 100 which sets the grid for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Light rain fell sporadically throughout qualifying and the drivers reported mixed conditions on the track.

Nasr clocked a session fastest time of 1: 34.311 on his fifth lap driving the No. 31 Cadillac DPi-VR, edging Mazda’s Oliver Jarvis by 0.131 seconds.

Tristan Vautier was third just 0.043 seconds older in the No. 5 Cadillac of JDC-Miller Motorsports, followed by IMSA debutant Kevin Magnussen for Chip Ganassi Racing.

The Acura ARX-05’s top rider was Filipe Albuquerque, fifth for Wayne Taylor Racing.

LMP2 saw Ben Keating jump up front for the reigning IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar LMP2 PR1 / Mathiasen Motorsports Championship champions in the No.52 Oreca 07 Gibson.

Dennis Andersen was more than a second from second for High Class Racing, Roberto Lacorte impressing in the Dallara P217 fielded by Cetilar Racing.

Fresh out of victory at the opening of the IMSA Prototype Challenge series, Moritz Kranz took first place in the new LMP3 category for 2021 in the No.6 Nissan Duqueine D08 for Muehlner Motorsports.

Ryan Norman, reigning Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR champion, finished second in his class for Fort7, also in Duqueine.

Nissan’s best Ligier JS P320 was Rasmus Lindh third for Performance Tech Motorsports.

Riley Motorsports’ two rivals didn’t set a time, while Kranz was the only LMP3 driver to qualify ahead of the entire GT Le Mans field with the rest sprinkled in the middle of the GTE-spec machines.

Nevertheless, the LMP3 peloton will start first in the two GT categories in tomorrow’s qualifying race.

BMW goes 1-2 in GTLM

Marco Wittman led the charge in a BMW Team RLL 1-2 in the GTLM class for the Motul Pole Award 100.

Wittman broke the 1:43 mark with a fastest lap of 1: 42.980 in the No. 24 BMW M8 GTE, 0.343 seconds ahead of teammate Timo Glock in the sister car.

Alexander Sims called the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R third in its Corvette Racing debut, followed by Jordan Taylor’s No. 3 Corvette.

Alessandro Pier Guidi and Cooper MacNeil completed the GTLM field for Risi Competizione and WeatherTech Racing, respectively.

The GT Daytona class honors Wright Motorsports driver Ryan Hardwick, who took first place by 0.264 seconds in the # 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Simon Mann finished second in the # 21 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 AF Corse, with Madison Snow’s Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo and Russell Ward’s Winward Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in tow.

For statistical purposes, an IMSA official clarified that these results will not count as official pole positions in the record books. This distinction will be earned in tomorrow’s 100-minute qualifying race.

The session counts as an official session for track record purposes, however, which saw the WeatherTech Championship LMP3 track record set by default in the class’s first official session in the Championship.
