After the announcement Friday that Natalie Morales would be leaving NBC News after 22 years, the 49-year-old TV reporter took to social media to celebrate.
In a cute selfie with her 23-year-old husband Joe Rhodes, Morales can be seen smiling brightly while cheering for a Corona on the beach. The couple married in 1998 and had two children together: Josh, 17, and Luke, 13.
“To new beginnings,” Morales wrote in the caption. “A toast to all who are embarking on something new… and no matter how scary they are… good things will come when you least expect them!”
“So happy for you dearest Natalie,” TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie wrote in the comments. “We will all miss you very much, but we are so proud of you !!! Go get them!”
3rd Hour of TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones commented on a series of heart emojis, while TODAY’s Donna Farizan commented on her support with a single heart emoji.
“Natalie… you are so classy,” commented TV host Joelle Garguilo. “I could go on and on and on about how wonderful you were to me when I was just starting out in this… one of a kind business!
Morales first announced her departure from NBC News in an internal memo to her colleagues on Friday, explaining that she was excited to pursue “a new adventure.”
“This first half of my life has been full of adventures, challenges, journeys, far too many morning awakenings, and yes opportunities to witness the story and tell inspiring and hard-hitting stories that will always stay with you. in my mind, “she wrote.
“Speaking of this coil: I’ve watched my family grow up with so many of your own children, and as my oldest son prepares to spread his wings and head to college soon, I also think the time is right. come (before the second half of my life) to spread my own wings and pursue a new adventure. “
Morales will continue to appear as a correspondent for “Dateline” through 2021 and will be greeted with a farewell tribute on air on TODAY in the coming weeks.
