Hurricane Dorian is on the verge of becoming a major hurricane with a dangerous storm surge and strong winds before its passage on the east coast of Florida at the end of Labor Day weekend, announced Thursday forecasters.

Dorian left the Caribbean relatively unharmed as they passed Puerto Rico and the US and British Virgin Islands on Wednesday. But forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say the storm is poised to turn into a Category 3 hurricane, with possible "rapid intensification" when it swirls in the Atlantic.
