The starting national championships, Stephen Strasburg, made some history Thursday night against the Cardinals. In five rounds, Strasbourg has withdrawn eight, which gives him exactly 1,500 K in his career. Strasburg is 30, but he has had his share of injuries. His 1500th career retirement came in his 1,272 1/3 inning.

Via the nationals, it's the fastest in terms of a pitcher's innings to have 1,500 strikeouts. The top five is full of famous artists:

  1. Strasbourg, 1.272 1/3 IP
  2. Chris Sale, 1290 IP
  3. Kerry Wood, 1,303 IP
  4. Pedro Martinez, 1.337 IP
  5. Randy Johnson, 1,356 2/3 IP

It's not really a mainstream record or anything, but it's definitely a feather in Strasburg's cap. He is halfway to the best-known step of the 3,000 strikeouts (CC Sabathia received the number 3,000 Wednesday and here's a look at who could get there next), although Strasbourg needs better health and longevity to get there. It took him 10 years from his beginnings to get to midway.

Strasburg, three times in the All-Star, led the NL with 242 strikeouts in 2014. He also passed the 200 in 2017, when he finished third in the NL Cy Young vote.
