NBA Draft 2021: Josh Giddey knows the Warriors are made for him

Almost any lottery contender would be thrilled to be selected by the Warriors in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Playing alongside Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green while being immersed in Golden State championship culture would be the perfect way to start an NBA career. This is even truer for Australian Josh Giddey, who sees the Warriors like the perfect place for him because of their ball movement attack and, of course, their championship core.

“Playing with guys like Steph and Klay who are so good without the ball and move without, for a passer like me I think it’s a dream world,” Giddey told Jason Dumas of KRON4. “Being with these guys – the veterans – and learning from two of the best guards ever would be such a bonus, and obviously Draymond is known to be a top level leader, then under Steve Kerr’s coaching system. has so many good things about the Warriors. “

On the flip side, Giddey could be exactly what the Warriors are looking for, especially with the No. 14 overall pick.

The 6-foot-8 goalie can do a little bit of everything. At just 18, Giddey averaged 11.4 points, 7.4 assists and 7.1 rebounds for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian NBL while winning the Rookie of the Year award.

Giddey won’t be 19 until October 10, but he’s not playing like a teenager. He lets the game come to him and has a wisdom and calm on the pitch that belies his youth. His shot might take some work, but it’s not irreparable and the young Aussie has worked tirelessly to improve it during the pre-draft process.

The Warriors own the rights to the No. 7 and No. 14 picks in the first round and are reportedly looking to buy one or both picks in a bid to upgrade the roster around Curry, Thompson and Green.

But if a deal doesn’t materialize, Giddey has the type of play that would fit in well alongside the Championship trio and has great potential in the Golden State system. His passing ability and high basketball IQ would make him a great option to execute the unit’s second attack when Curry is seated, and sliding him alongside Curry and Thompson could allow both snipers to probe the ball further, an area where both torment the defenses.

The Warriors will face a tough decision when they go against the clock on July 29. But if Giddey stays on the board when the Warriors make their second pick of the round, it might not take long for them to return the card with his name. he.
