Philadelphia 76ers re-sign veteran marksman Danny Green to two-year, $ 20 million contract, first reported by Harrison san, who co-hosts the Inside the Green Room podcast with Green himself. The 76ers waived George Hill’s partially guaranteed contract on Monday, apparently to create more flexibility in making moves. They now appear to have used that flexibility to bring Green back.

Essentially, that means, barring a trade, that they’ll push back the team from last year. All five starters are back, as are key reserves Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, Furkan Korkmaz and Shake Milton. Georges Niang has been signed to give the bench another shooter, and Andre Drummond will replace Dwight Howard at the save center, but otherwise, so far business has been business as usual in Philadelphia.

This is somewhat surprising given the catastrophic end of the season for Philadelphia. Ben Simmons has been the subject of trade rumors since his disappointing second-round streak against the Atlanta Hawks, but so far Philadelphia has apparently asked too much in a possible deal with Simmons. Nothing seems to have come close to coming to fruition, and at this point in the offseason, most teams are largely done putting together their rosters. Finding an agreement now would be difficult.

But it’s worth asking what advantage this version of the 76ers might have with Green’s return. He was injured in the playoffs and was not playing when the Hawks knocked them out. Young backups should be better. Even though Green and Seth Curry do decline a bit with age, if they are healthy, the Sixers should still be formidable.

It seems to be hope right now. The 76ers surely explored higher reward moves before bringing Green back. They haven’t found one, so now they’ll likely hold on to the team that finished with the best Eastern Conference record last season.
