NBA Free Agency: Pistons and Jerami Grant agree to three-year, $ 60 million deal

The Detroit Pistons and Jerami Grant have agreed to a massive $ 60 million, three-year deal that will see Grant Man play a starting role for the Pistons and require additional steps to make the money work.

Detroit doesn’t have the space to sign Grant to this deal, so it obviously depends on another move. Earlier on Friday, the Pistons also agreed to a $ 24 million three-year deal with Nuggets center Mason Plumlee.

According to NBA capologist Keith Smart, the Pistons will execute the grant signing and its flurry of other moves by relinquishing and stretching the recently acquired Dewayne Dedmon and Rodney McGruder.

Yes, after suffering for years under the $ 5.3 million cap from Josh Smith’s disastrous contract waiver and extension, the Pistons are losing about $ 3.8 million of their cap space for the five next seasons.

It doesn’t matter much for the immediate future, with the Pistons rebuilding themselves and looking like one of the worst teams in the league. But being one of the worst teams in the league means you really don’t have to worry about your own financial flexibility like this.

Sigh ….

Grant went on to star in Denver as an energetic, high-flying wing alongside stars Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. Ahead of his year in Denver, he established himself as one of the league’s most promising wings in the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Troy Weaver must have liked what he saw when he was at OKC. The problem is, Detroit doesn’t have the offensive focal points that allowed Grant to shine elsewhere. There’s no Jokic and Murray, or Paul George and Russell Westbrook like he did with the Thunder.

…..

……………..

For god’s sake, you better not involve a Westbrook.

Grant, however, doesn’t seem to think he needs an alpha like Westbrook or Murray and Jokic by his side. The Nuggets reportedly came up with the exact same deal to retain Grant, but Jerami chose to go to Detroit on the promise of a bigger role in the offense.

He apparently wants his time to shine.
