[ad_1]

With a few weeks to go into the season, NBA.com today released the results of its GM survey. While some may question the value of these polls before games are played, it is still interesting to see how senior league officials perceive different teams and players. Here’s where the Golden State Warriors landed in this investigation.

Team categories

These are all of the categories throughout the investigation where the Warriors have appeared as a team:

  • Ranking of the Western Conference: Warriors, 5th
  • Which team will be the most improved: Warriors, tied for 2nd
  • Which team is the funniest to watch: Warriors, 2nd

Overall, the league believes the Warriors should be significantly better than last year, but not yet title contenders. The survey did not list the Warriors as a team that could win the NBA Finals this year. In addition, the results of the survey place them at 5e in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.

It makes sense that the Warriors are tied for second place as the most improved team. They’re a much better team this year than the play-in team they were last season. The Warriors will have All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson returning at some point this season, which is a huge improvement in itself. They’ve signed seasoned veterans like Andre Iguodala, Namanja Bjelica and Otto Porter Jr. as well as drafted a pair of lottery picks in Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. They expect big developments from Jordan Poole and James Wiseman. Add that to the team which includes the game’s best offensive player in Stephen Curry and one of the top 5 defensive players in Draymond Green, the Warriors should be a lock on the playoffs with the benefit of winning it all if all goes well. .

Categories of players / coaches

These are categories throughout the survey that list specific Warriors players and trainers:

  • Who will win the MVP: Stephen Curry, 6e
  • Which player forces opposing coaches to make the most adjustments: Curry, 1st
  • Best leader: Curry, 1st
  • Most Versatile Defender: Draymond Green, 4e
  • Which head coach is the best manager / motivator of people: Steve Kerr, tied for 2sd
  • Which head coach leads the best attack: Kerr, 2sd
  • Best Assistant Coach: Kenny Atkinson, tied for 1st
  • Best Pure Shooting Game: Curry, 1st
  • Best without a ball: Curry, 1st
  • Who do you want to take the last photo: Curry, 2sd

Warriors players and coaches were well represented on this list. Steph’s elite offensive reputation among the league’s general managers has been highlighted by several of his first-place rankings. In the vote for “Pure Best Shooter”, Steph had 90% of the vote, the largest margin of any category. However, it should be noted that he was listed at 6e in the MVP ranking projected behind Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid and James Harden. Meanwhile, Draymond’s defensive reputation among general managers earned him 7% of the vote for the most versatile defenseman behind Giannis, Ben Simmons and LeBron James. Other than that, the high rankings of Steve Kerr and new assistant coach Kenny Atkinson show that the league recognizes the quality of the Warriors’ coaching staff. New additions to staff in particular should be important in giving the team a fresh perspective on their approach.

Various:

Here are the remaining categories where the Warriors were among others who received votes but not enough to appear in the roster:

  • Best home court advantage: Warriors, others receiving votes
  • Best Defensive Player: Green, others receiving votes
  • Active player who can become a coach: Green, others receiving votes
  • Best chef: Curry, others getting votes

Last takeaways

The Warriors approach the new season with an optimistic outlook from the rest of the league executives. While the team isn’t perfect, they have the basics and assets to potentially make some noise in the playoffs.
