Gordon Hayward apparently turned down a significant sum from the Celtics and Pacers before agreeing to a deal with the Hornets.

After Hayward opted out of his final season in Boston, most reports indicated his focus was Indiana and the Celtics and Pacers were working on signing and trade potential. Reporters framed their information reminding readers that Hayward could still return to Boston, but a meeting was ultimately unrealistic.

Charlotte surprised many when she arrived and reportedly landed in Hayward with a four-year, $ 120 million contract. And, according to Zach Lowe, Hayward has left more than $ 100 million offers on the table from Boston and Indiana to join the Hornets under Michael Jordan.

“Do you want to clown the contract?” Lowe said on his podcast “The Lowe Post”. “That’s fine. Just know it’s not like the Pacers and Celtics are offering $ 80 million. They aren’t offering $ 120 million. But my best piece of information is something like $ 105 million. , $ 108 million, $ 102 million, $ 110 million.

“It’s not like the delta is so huge.”

So neither does Hayward really didn’t want to go back to the Celtics or he just wanted to go to the highest bidder – or both. An opportunity for an increased role also likely factored into his decision.

As for the Celtics, a report on Saturday said a signing and trade with the Hornets remained a possibility. There has been no update since.
