Woj reported on Friday that the Houston Rockets are guaranteeing DeMarcus Cousins’ contract for the remainder of the 2020-21 NBA season.
A day later, Shams reported that Houston was surprisingly giving up on Cousins, despite the fact that he apparently did everything the Rockets could have hoped for when they signed him to a one-year contract worth $ 2.56 million.
Cousins has shown he is healthy and impactful this season. He averages 9.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in 25 games. Sources have expressed positive comments about Cousins’ professionalism and play during his time in Houston. https://t.co/jWLQpXsrwS

But it could end up working with the former Kentucky Wildcats star and beloved Lexington figure.
While getting cut isn’t good, it can actually be very profitable for Cousins if he lands with an NBA title contender.
According to Kevin O’Connor, reporter for The Ringer, the Los Angeles Lakers are among the clubs interested in the Cousins.
Sources: The Lakers will be among the teams to sue DeMarcus Cousins.
The market will be limited for cousins, sources say. He struggled this year after returning from several serious injuries. But for Los Angeles or any team needing a great depth of man, few options bring more benefits.

On Saturday night, the Rockets are 11-17 and four games out of a Western Conference playoff berth and haven’t made the NBA Finals since the days of Hakeem Olajuwon.
The Lakers, meanwhile, are 22-8, two games out of the No.1 seed in the West, and have just won their 17th NBA title, as well as their eighth appearance in the NBA Finals. since Houston’s last trip there.
So yeah, I would say Cousins will be a big winner if he ends up on the Lakers list. And he obviously has a chemistry built with Anthony Davis since their days with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Speaking of which, Davis is set to miss several weeks with an Achilles injury, so Los Angeles is in desperate need of help on the front lines. Signing a guy like Cousins makes sense to help fill that void now while providing much needed depth for what hopes to be another deep playoff run.
But nothing is set in stone, so stay tuned next week as Cousins searches for his next home in the NBA.
