Minnesota Timberwolves Star Malik beasley was sentenced to 120 days in jail – and banned from owning firearms for life – after pleading guilty to felony threats for pointing a gun at a family in a bizarre incident in September.
Prosecutors in Hennepin County, Minnesota, say Beasley’s Plymouth home was accidentally put on a “parade of houses” list in the fall – which is essentially a tour guide to the impressive mansions in the area. The list resulted in an increase in vehicle traffic around Beasley’s house – which really pissed him off, prosecutors said.
Officials said that on September 26, Beasley was so frustrated he headed for a visitation car that was at the end of his driveway. and pointed a gun to her. Prosecutors say he then ordered the family inside the ride to rush out.
Beasley, 24 – who cops said was also in possession of marijuana at the time – was later arrested … and ultimately charged with threats of violence and drug possession.
In a virtual hearing in December, Beasley pleaded guilty to the threatening charge … and in return, prosecutors agreed to drop the drug charge.
During the hearing, Beasley said of his actions: “I was not on my mind. I am ready to move on.”
Beasley returned to virtual court on Tuesday for sentencing … and the judge ordered him to spend 120 days in a jail known as “The Workhouse” at Hennepin County Adult Correctional Center.
As part of the sentencing, the judge ruled that Beasley will NOT have to serve his sentence during the NBA season … setting a tentative date of May 26 to report to jail.
The judge also said Beasley could end up being released on electronic home surveillance if COVID-19 precautions forced this move.
Beasley was also ordered to complete an anger management program and was given a lifetime ban from owning firearms. Beasley was also ordered not to use alcohol or drugs and to take random drug tests.
Prosecutors say Beasley read a statement at the hearing, telling the court, “I am not that person. I humbly apologize for my actions.”
