NBC hires Lilly Singh to replace Carson Daly late at night – Variety

Lilly Singh, who first became famous as a star on YouTube, was chosen to replace Carson Daly as host of the NBC talk show at 1:35 pm

The new title "A Little Late with Lilly Singh" will be launched in September and, as NBC notes, will make her the only woman to presently host a late-night talk show on one of the networks. Big 4.

"A Little Late" will feature Singh in studio interviews, as well as pre-recorded comedy sketches and other "signature elements".

"Lilly is truly a star and we are excited to welcome her into our NBC family," said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Special Programs and Late Night, NBC Entertainment. "She's a multi-talented performer who will surely have a good relationship with all her guests, but also with our dedicated late-night crowd. We are eager to start.

Singh was to appear Thursday night as part of "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" to make this announcement.

"A Canadian-Indian with her own late-night show? Now, it's a dream come true, "Singh said. "I'm excited to bring the channel to life on NBC and I hope my parents consider it as exciting as a grandchild."

Singh will be executive producer of "A Little Late", while Polly Auritt, who heads Singh's Unhorn Island Productions, will be the co-executive producer. Universal TV produced with Unicorn Island.

The Peacock network announced last month that "Last Call with Carson Daly" would end after 17 years and 2000 episodes. Before "Last Call", the show was entitled "Later", first animated by Bob Costas (from 1988), then by Greg Kinnear, then by Cynthia Garrett.

As one of the most successful and lucrative YouTube stars to date (where she is known as IISuperwomanII), Singh has amassed more than 14 million subscribers on her channel. She is also one of the best-selling authors of the New York Times ("How to Be a Discord: A Guide to Conquering Life"), and as an actress in films like "Bad Moms", "Ice Age: Collision Course And HBO Fahrenheit 451. "She also starred in the YouTube documentary" A Trip to the Island of the Unicorn ".

Singh is relaunched by WME, Anonymous Content, Hansen, Jacobson and ID.
