Hours after President Joe Biden was sworn in on Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new state-by-state COVID-19 vaccine data showing where North Carolina stands relative to other states.
The new data from the CDC shows exactly how many doses each state has received and how many were administered.
In North Carolina, the state has received just over a million doses from the federal government since December 14. Of this number, 38% of the doses were administered.
The number compares to Georgia and Michigan, both of which have populations similar to North Carolina.
Biden said he hopes to vaccinate 100 million people within the first 100 days of his tenure.
Wake County officials told WRAL News on Wednesday that the county hoped the new administration’s plan to work more closely with states will help speed up the vaccination process.
While other county health departments immunize thousands of people against the novel coronavirus every day, those numbers in Wake County are only in the hundreds. Those who do manage to pass could still face a wait of several weeks or months before their appointment, according to Johnna Sharpe, the county’s operations manager.
