NORTH CAROLINA (KRON) – A man in North Carolina faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly abandoning his fish after being evicted from his home, according to WECT.
Michael Ray Hinson, 53, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with three counts of animal cruelty and an animal abandonment, the police said. media.
Hinson was deported on March 22 and MPs found the fish still in the house a few days later.
Authorities say that he left an Oscar fish in poor health and swimming in dirty water.
Ethan Lane, of the Fish Room, where the animal is being treated, said the fish was suffering from malnutrition and was suffering from a head disease affected by poor water quality and lack of food.
"When this fish came in, it was in very bad shape, the hole in the head is a parasite that starts in the intestines and acts from the inside by slowly killing the fish," said WECT.
Hole in the head disease forms lesions on the skin of the fish, allowing the bacteria to get inside. The disease can be fatal if left untreated.
"Oscar fish often have a hole in the head, but to prevent it, it's imperative to constantly monitor the quality of the water and feed your fish properly," Lane said.
Once the fish is fully recovered, it will be adopted.
Hinson was released on bail of $ 4,000.
