‘NCIS’ Season 19 premiere recap: Did Gibbs survive a boat explosion?

Like CBS ‘ NCIS opened its 19th season on Monday (yes, On Monday) night, it was sink or swim for Gibbs, who survived the actual bombardment of his new boat but was a bit worse for wear, however.

Picking up shortly after the explosive events of May’s finale, Gibbs reached shore, only to reveal that his torso had been impaled by a large shard of wood. After timing the injury, Gibbs tripped into the lake and floated on his back, bleeding….

As McGee and Torres learned of and investigated the explosion of a small vessel registered to an “LJ GIBBS” name, Gibbs himself came to himself, repaired and inside a strange locked barn. . He tried to break free, but toppled over in pain from his new injury – and instantly found a woman standing above him with a rifle.

This Thelma, along with her husband Virgil, had found Gibbs, and the latter, being a retired veterinarian, cared for him. The couple were suspicious of their discovery, as with his few conscious breaths he insisted, “No cops. As such, they were concerned that he was part of a gang on the north shore of the lake. But when Gibbs vividly noticed that a sheriff’s deputy who stopped by to ask Thelma for information about the lake explosion was actually an impostor, they started to believe his story and let him make a phone call. Yet when Gibbs reached McGee via Marcie all he did was charge Tim to keep his journalist friend safe – before hanging up abruptly.

Gifted with Thelma’s rifle but warned by Virgil to stir his wound, Gibbs made tracks for an abandoned ranger post on the north shore, riding an old motorbike out of the barn. At the ranger station, Gibbs couldn’t find any gang members, but Special Agent Jessica Knight – whom we had to remember had never met Gibbs before! – McGee and Torres, who had all been led to the location by the drift pattern of one of the serial killer’s found victims. When a trio of gang members arrived early enough, Knight played Innocent Tourist, while McGee and Torres flanked the bad guys with drawn pistols. For good measure, their “sniper” – Gibbs – spooked enterprising meth dealers with a few close-ups, which led to their surrender.

Sometime after the scratch, McGee privately told Gibbs that “Rule 91 is void, because it is in direct violation of Rule # 1 -” Never screw your partner. “” When Gibbs retorted, “I’m not your partner” (having lost his badge and everything) and also noted that the team “doesn’t need” him, McGee agreed, but maintained: ” We are better together.

“We have a serial killer to catch,” McGee continued, “but to do that we have to be a team. your team. ”Gibbs let out a slight smile as he told Tim,“ I’m proud of you, ”for always“ pushing ”.

“Does that mean you’re in it?” McGee asked hopefully.

With barely a nod, Gibbs replied, “What’s the matter?”

Elsewhere in the season premiere:

* Torres spotted Bishop’s hastily vacated apartment, where he met Jimmy Palmer, who himself had just learned of their colleague’s secret mission. When Torres pulled a handgun from a hiding place at Ellie’s house, Jimmy assumed Nick and Ellie had been more than co-workers.

* McGee and Torres chose Knight to join their investigation after Vance tried to force a freshly washed golden boy on them.

* During the investigation into the Gibbs boat explosion, the team came to suspect that their former boss (he has socks apparently with holes in it!) And reporter Marcie had … close.
