Nearly 1,400 people will lose their jobs as Belvidere Chrysler adopts two positions in May

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – A spokesman for the FCA Group, on behalf of the Belvidere Chrysler plant, said the company was eliminating its shift in C and returning to a two-team operation.

According to a statement from FCA spokeswoman Jodi Tinson, nearly 1,400 workers will lose their jobs because of this change.

Tinson says that this does not mean job losses outside of the usual layoffs. The schedule changes will come into effect on May 6th.

"In order to better align production with the global demand of its Belvidere assembly plant, FCA today informed the State of Illinois, the city of Belvidere and the city of Belvidere. FCA North America has also announced plans to increase production at five Michigan plants and build a new assembly line within the city limits of Detroit. That would create about 6,500 jobs in Michigan.
