The discovery was made Thursday when a truck driver was designated for a secondary inspection at the Otay Mesa border post in California.
Inside the pepper pallets, the agents discovered more than 300 green packs tested in the field for the presence of marijuana. Officials estimate that the seized drugs represent $ 2.3 million.
"I am proud of the officers who seized this important marijuana load," said Rosa Hernandez, port manager of Otay Mesa, in the press release. "Not only have they prevented the drugs from reaching our community, they have also prevented millions of dollars in potential profit from turning it into a transnational criminal organization."
There was no information on any criminal charges against the truck driver.
Thursday's bankruptcy follows a seizure of more than 10,000 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of plastic car parts that occurred on August 13 in the same cargo facility.
