LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on Thursday released updated instructions for Nebraskans on COVID-19 quarantine standards.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday released new recommendations following research to better understand when transmission of COVID-19 is most likely to occur. The new recommendations shorten the quarantine window.
For those who have close contact with someone with COVID-19 or anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, quarantine is recommended to limit the possibilities of transmitting the virus to others.
As of Thursday, the quarantine may end seven (7) days after close contact with COVID-19 only if all of the following conditions are met:
- The person looks for a COVID-19 test on the fifth (5) day after exposure to another person who tested positive and their test is negative.
- The person has no symptoms.
- The person continues to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and wears a mask until day 14.
For those who have had close contact exposure to COVID-19 but do not pass a test, the quarantine may end when all of the following conditions are met:
- At least 10 days have passed since the close contact exposure.
- No symptoms of COVID-19 have developed.
- The person continues to self-monitor for symptoms and wears a face mask until day 14.
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for at least 10 days from the date of their test. Isolation can end when the following conditions are met:
- The person does not have a fever without the use of anti-fever medication for 24 hours.
- All symptoms of COVID-19 are improving, although some symptoms may persist.
