In today’s “not shocking, but still welcome” news today, MSI’s line of gaming PCs are now available with Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. This includes the RTX 3060 Ti, the mighty RTX 3070, the impressive RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090 arguably the best in its class.
These graphics cards will be available in MSI’s Trident, Infinite, Aeis, and Codex desktop gaming lines, so in theory there’s a Series 30 system to match any price range. (As long as your price range is “at least $ 1,400”, anyway.)
This information comes from an MSI press release: As of today, GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs are available on MSI gaming desktops. These GPUs support both high-resolution gaming, as well as sophisticated lighting effects, such as ray tracing. By incorporating these graphics cards into its four desktop PC lines, MSI hopes to offer something both to powerful “money is not an object” gamers and more low-key, budget-conscious fans.
“Including the Ampere 30 series graphics cards in our prebuilt PCs posed some challenges,” Cliff Chun, MSI product manager, told Tom’s Guide. Installing the GPU in the company’s smaller chassis was one of them. “Since our Trident series is made up of small form factor gaming desktops, with the increased size of the RTX 30 series cards, we had to modify the chassis a bit to accommodate them.
Chun also cited heat dissipation and increased power consumption as challenges of installing RTX 30 series boards on four separate lines of desktops. But the process apparently worked, as some of the 30 Series-equipped machines are available now, while others are available for pre-order.
While it takes too long to document every available MSI desktop variant, you can take a look yourself by going to the MSI website, then clicking on “Products”, “Desktops” and your favorite line.
Which RTX 30 Series PCs you can buy
The cheapest model I found was an MSI Codex R gaming desk at Best Buy for $ 1,399. It includes a GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, as well as an Intel i5-10400F processor, 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD, as well as a mouse and keyboard. It’s hard to say if the machine itself is worth the price, as we haven’t tested it. But at the very least, that seems like a reasonable amount, considering the coins you get.
Unfortunately, this PC is currently sold out, but it’s worth checking out if the stock returns.
The more expensive models were actually a little harder to locate, as MSI’s website actually links to older or less powerful cards, even when you select the “3090” option in its desktop search. The Aegis R at Best Buy costs $ 3,999 and has an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, an Intel Core i9-10900K processor, 32GB of RAM, a 2TB SSD, and, again, a ‘a mouse and a keyboard. This model is currently out of stock.
Either way, if you’re desperately trying to track down an Nvidia RTX 30 series card and don’t mind buying a prebuilt machine, MSI’s deals look as good as any. Building a similar system yourself would of course be cheaper, but you would also have to wait for stocks to stabilize.
