Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock was naturally furious after his threatened relegation team lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Saturday when Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored a heartbreaking goal in the 91st minute. Once the referee whistled that the match was over with a hissing sound, Warnock left the technical area and headed straight for the men that he considered to be one of the main reasons for the loss of his team: the officials. While everyone was giving the handshake to his teammates, coaches and opponents, the boss of the city of Cardiff gave the three officials one of the coldest looks imaginable.

Warnock's march towards the officials was certainly sufficient to provoke a reaction that made the spectators of the stadium and the radio wonder what he was going to do, but in retrospect he had become so angry about the arbitration errors in the game it would have been more of a shock if it had not done anything at all. He had excellent reasons to be so upset.

It started with the tying goal that Cesar Azpilicueta scored in the 84th minute. A retransmission showed that the back of the club was offside and that the flag of the line judge was not raised. A few minutes later, another arbitration error seemed to deprive Cardiff City of a man 's advantage. Antonio Rüdiger of Chelsea coached Víctor Camarasa on a great opportunity to score. But instead of being sent off, Rüdiger received only one yellow card.

Warnock then took the time to express his frustrations during his post-match interview with SkySports. In this document, he said that these mistakes are the reason why the VAR is necessary and that, although the Premier League may be the best league in the world, these are the worst officials.

Let yourself be shot down by the officials, that is, you know, ride on VAR. That's why you need VAR because if you can not see an offside with a flag, it's not even close, you know. We worked three weeks for that. When we were disappointed with the decisions, we thought that Morrison could have easily had a penalty in the first half, we thought that he could quite easily have one in the second half. We thought that there was a red card[…] It's the best league in the world but the worst officials. They do not understand what is at stake. They should not make mistakes at this level[…] It's almost as if you're not playing, it's just as important to know who's the referee and who's got a flag in their hands.

Regarding the issues mentioned by Warnock, the battle for the relegation of Cardiff City has become much more difficult. Even though they were still in the drop zone, three points would have put the club two points from Brighton, Southampton and Burnley on the board. Instead, they are five points behind these clubs with only seven games to play in the season.
