BALTIMORE – Nestor Cortes Jr. delivered for the Yankees again on Wednesday night.
The southpaw further strengthened his role in the rotation with another stellar performance in a 4-3 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards, pulling off a career-high 11, while allowing just one point in 6 ¹ / ₃ sleeves.
“Overall it was as good as it did,” manager Aaron Boone said. “And that means something.”
Cortes has allowed more than two runs in just two of his last nine starts and his ERA dropped to 2.60.
Boone and Cortes pointed to his cutter’s efficiency as the reason for the strikeouts. A home run with two Austin Hays strikeouts in the sixth was Cortes’ only flaw on the night.
