Netflix and Apple TV + clean up the Emmys with “The Crown” and “Ted Lasso”

Netflix landed the most Emmys for a single platform with 44 including 11 for The crown, more than double its closest rival, HBO / HBO Max. The 2021 edition of the awards was also a pivotal year for Apple TV +, which won 10 Emmys including seven for its comedy series. Ted lasso.

This was notable in 2018 when Netflix managed to tie up a cable network, HBO (pre-HBO Max), for the most Emmy wins. This year, it has beaten all its rivals by far, and streaming platforms have taken the top four overall. It remains to be seen if this can continue when the pandemic begins to subside – and subscription growth declines.
