Higher Ground Productions and Temple Hill are teaming up for a new Netflix anthology event titled “Blackout”.
The project, being developed simultaneously as a film and a television series, is an adaptation of six different love stories, all written by six different authors, including “The Hate U Give’s” Angie Thomas.
Higher Ground Productions and Temple Hill recently collaborated on Kevin Hart-directed Netflix comedy “Fatherhood,” which is expected to be watched in 61 million homes in its first four weeks.
Here is the connection line of the project:
Six prolific writers have written six dark love stories that all take place during a power outage on a sweltering summer night. From the perspective of 12 teens with six love shots, Blackout unfolds as a heat wave blankets New York City in darkness and causes electrical mayhem. When the lights go out and people reveal hidden truths, love blossoms, friendships transform, and all possibilities take flight. An ex-couple must bury their rivalry and roam Manhattan to return to Brooklyn in time to throw a block party. Two girls search for a lost photo and find something more. Two boys trapped in the subway come face to face with their feelings. A pair of best friends stuck in the NYPL and surrounded by love stories find out if there is one in their future. A trio of traveling senior children take control of a double-decker sightseeing bus as they try to have a little fun… and work on their messy love triangle. Two strangers debate the philosophical nature of identity and wonder if they can find something else between them.
The six authors are Thomas, Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon.
