It seems forever, but the wait is about to end. The highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular comic series The sand man gathers. Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar are set to star in the DC comic-based dark fantasy series.
The series is described as a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are closely interwoven ”. The sand man follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the King of Dreams, as he attempts to undo all the cosmic and human mistakes he has made during his vast existence.
Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Gaiman and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation). Gaiman, Goyer and Heinberg are also co-authors of the project.

The sand man adds to Gaiman’s list of fantastic series based on his work. He also created the comics for Amazon Good omens, Starz’s American gods and Lucifer which is now on Netflix.

An adaptation of The sand man has been in the making for some time. Initially, it was to be a feature film directed by and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He ended up resigning after some creative differences. Gaiman and Goyer also participated in the film adaptation.
