Have you ever fallen asleep on a TV show to the point of falling asleep in the middle of an episode? The last one you want is for the series to continue playing indefinitely, potentially exposing you to spoilers once you wake up and pick up the series later (yes, it has happened to me before, and it sucks) .
Worry no more: Netflix is testing a timer feature on Android that will allow you to pause a show after a while. As reported by Verge – Netflix confirmed the feature upon release – the timer feature lets you choose to stop playing after 15, 30, or 45 minutes – or until your current episode ends. The function is accessible from a timer button at the top right of video playback.
This seems to be a useful feature for people who like to fall asleep while watching a TV show in the background. While it’s not something I do on a regular basis with Netflix, I often sleep while listening to audiobooks and find the ability to set a sleep timer to be a godsend.
The test is currently limited to a few users worldwide on Android, but if it’s popular enough, Netflix will likely bring it to TVs and other devices. That said, it’s not yet clear when we might see a larger rollout.
