Netflix makes Covid vaccines mandatory

Netflix has announced that they will make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for those who work in Zone A (meaning the part of a set with actors) in its US productions.

Netflix is closely following the recently updated return-to-work protocols agreed to by guilds and studios, which say the industry can mandate Zone A vaccinations on a project-by-project basis.

However, this will mark the first major studio to institute a general vaccination policy in all of its productions. This decision will make it possible to relax the current protocols for the actors and the team who are fully vaccinated.

Exemptions for medical, religious or age reasons may apply on Netflix sets. The streamer’s shows and movies already in production may be able to continue even if some members of the production are not vaccinated – but these exceptions will be rare.

It comes as the delta variant, a much more contagious strain of the virus, continues to spread both in the United States where vaccines are plentiful, and around the world where they are still difficult to obtain in many countries.

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce a mandate as early as this week requiring all federal government employees to be vaccinated.
