Netflix The Chicago 7 trial will be available for free on its YouTube channel for 48 hours, starting Friday, Feb.19 at 12 p.m. PT, according to a blog post from the company (via The Wrap). Writer and director Aaron Sorkin said the film was being released for free to “commemorate the anniversary of the verdict in this historic trial,” and praised those portrayed in the film as “the true patriots who inspired a generation – in fact, generations. “
The film centers on the eight Vietnam War protesters who were charged with inciting riot and conspiring to demonstrate at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Sorkin is no stranger to political subjects, particularly working on West wing and A few good men, although he is perhaps best known for films like Social network and Steve Jobs.
This is not the first time that Netflix has made some of its content free on YouTube. Last April, he made several of his documentaries available on the platform, many of which still seem to be in place, including 13th, Bring down the houseand episodes of nature docuseries Our planet.
Netflix providing its original movies and shows on YouTube for free could be a way to introduce its content to people, especially since it no longer offers free trials for its service.
If you want to see the movie but don’t have Netflix, it will be available on the Netflix YouTube channel starting Friday.
