Say hello to your friends: the Babysitters Club come back.

Netflix announced Thursday it ordered a reboot of 10 episodes of the television series based on Ann M. Martin's beloved children's books.

"The themes of The babysitters club 30 years after the publication of the original book series, and it has never been more appropriate to tell an ambitious story about the empowerment of young women entrepreneurs, "said Melissa Cobb, vice president of Kids & Family. at Netflix.

Originally published in 1986, the books following the adventures of a group of five BFFs in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut, have become a massive, global sensation. Martin's series have published more than 200 books, of which 180 million have been sold.

HBO first adapted the series to a one-season show in 1990, when a film was shot in 1995 with Rachael Leigh Cook (She is all that) and Larisa Oleynik (The secret world of Alex Mack).

Like these projects, this Netflix restart will remain smooth and healthy, unlike the streaming service. The icy adventures of Sabrina, which was closer to the comic book series featuring this character than the show of the 1990s Sabrina the teenage witch.

We do not know yet for the cast, but the five main characters – Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schafer – are back.

Martin, the original author, will be the producer of the new live action series.

"I'm amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The babysitters club after all these years, and I am honored to continue to hear readers – become adults, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they are reflected in the characters from Kristy and her friends, "said Martin in a statement." So I'm very excited about the upcoming Netflix series, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders around the world. "
