Netflix renews Steve Carell’s space force for second season

The Most Overqualified Comedy Cast On TV Is Set To Get A Little Moreuh tonight, as Netflix announced that it has ordered a second season of Greg Daniels and Steve Carell’s Space force, the show that dared to ask how many absolute ringtones – Ben Schwartz, John Malkovich, Tawny Newsome, Lisa Kudrow, Chris Gethard, Aparna Nancherla, Dan Bakkedahl, Jimmy O. Yang, Patrick Warburton, the late Fred Willard, Jane Lynch, Jesus—You can start a show without making it as funny or enjoyable as it should be. Through Deadline, the show’s second season will add Parks and recreation and Brooklyn 99 alum Norm Hiscock on the show’s production team, where he will serve as co-showrunner with Daniels.

For those who don’t know Space force, he followed Carell as Air Force General Mark Naird, a stiff military man and by the book tasked with leading an army wing tweeted by a very uninformed (if unnamed, in the series) POTUS, while also balancing out a surprising amount of family drama with rebels his teenage daughter Erin (Diana Silvers) and his incarcerated wife Maggie (Kudrow). The show drew much of its comedy in season one from Carell’s rigidity in the face of challenges from people like the program’s chief scientist (a deliciously dry Malkovich) or his stupidly cheerful social media manager (Schwartz, doing his best to make that rock climb with pure energy and charisma). The problem was, the show never seemed to come to a conclusion about whether Space Force was really a good idea or not; he sometimes showed signs of being a really petty, potentially brilliant satire, but was just as likely to draw the punch for a sensationgood conclusion “Good people who do a good job”.

All of this may or may not continue in the show’s second season; clearly, however enough people have listened to the first that Netflix’s decision to pull the trigger on a second release made logical sense.
