Cobra Kai, the Karate kid spin-off, has become one of Netflix’s most popular original series after leaving YouTube.

The streamer revealed that more than 41 million households have already watched the third season of the show – the first to air exclusively on Netflix – in its first 28 days. That makes the drama, from Sony Pictures TV, one of its first ten original series to return.

Netflix kicked off the show’s first two seasons, which takes place 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, which premiered on YouTube last year and the third season premiered on January 1.

Over the three seasons, 73 million Netflix households watched an episode, and the third season reached number one in 28 countries, including the US, UK, Argentina, Greece and Sri Lanka.

It’s not a huge surprise that it’s done well; the series, which stars Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, garnered much media and social media attention and the show broke viewing records on its YouTube debut, including 55 million views for its opening episode.

It comes as Netflix has started releasing viewing data on a more regular basis, at least on its hit shows. Earlier this month, the streamer noted that Bridgerton was on track for 63 million households to have watched it in its first 28 days.

Cobra Kai switched from YouTube to Netflix last year after the former left the original scripted programming. It has already been renewed for a fourth season and there have been conversations between Netflix and Sony about the franchise’s potential expansion with others. Karate kid series.

Also on the bill are Courtney Henggeler, Xolo MaridueƱa, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Martin Kove and Peyton List.

Cobra Kai is written and produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg through their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett produce for Overbrook Entertainment with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are co-executive producers.
