Universal Pictures retains the national rights of the potential award nominee.

World news goes around the world via Netflix.

The streamer is in the process of closing a deal for international distribution rights for the Hanks star, with Universal Pictures still holding the domestic rights.

Universal has a December 25 release date in North America, and the film is set to play a part in this year’s awards season.

While the deal is yet to be done, it is similar to other deals the streamer has made for the studio’s fee, including Paramount Animation’s international rights. The SpongeBob movie: Sponge on the Run.

Paul Greengrass’s film follows Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a veteran of three wars, who now travels from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller. In Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna, a 10-year-old girl taken in by the Kiowas six years earlier and raised as one of their own. The couple embark on a journey when Kidd agrees to deliver the child to where the law says it belongs.
