Netflix launched one of its first big new movies of the year earlier this week, and it turned subscribers into emotional wrecks.
Pieces of a woman is a heartbreaking drama about how the aftermath of a tragic birth affects a young mother and her relationships. The crown Star Vanessa Kirby leads, with Shia LaBeouf as an on-screen partner. The film was widely acclaimed on the festival circuit last year, and now that it’s in streaming worldwide view, it’s having a major impact as well.
As you can imagine, Pieces of a woman isn’t the kind of wellness movie you stick to to cheer yourself up and anyone who’s watched it so far, since it hit the platform last Thursday, will know it’s a fantastic but devastating experience. Social media is currently teeming with rave reviews from Netflix subscribers who were pretty much left in a fetal position on the floor after completing it, and the first act, in particular, was unanimously praised for its uncompromising nature. .

Although it receives a lot of reviews, Kornรฉl Mundruczรณ’s film is also subject to criticism from some for its arguably twisty plot in the second half. However, Kirby’s performance, in particular, as well as that of LaBeouf, is undeniably strong.
He currently sits 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, which gives him a Certified Fresh rating, and while he hasn’t yet received an audience score, here’s how RT’s critical consensus says it: “Pieces of a woman struggles to maintain momentum after a mind-boggling first act, but Vanessa Kirby’s performance makes the end result a poignant portrayal of grief.
