Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ Drops First Look Images on Fantastic New Series

Netflix has ditched first-sight footage from its upcoming fantasy series “Shadow and Bones.”

The series is an adaptation of the bestselling Grishaverse novels by author Leigh Bardugo and will premiere on the streaming service on April 23.

According to the synopsis, “Shadow and Bone” finds us in a war-torn world where humble soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to her country’s liberation. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn apart with everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as the Grisha.

“These photos offer a glimpse into the vast, textured world that Leigh has created in her books,” showrunner / executive producer Eric Heissere said in a press release on what to expect from the series.

“We have worked tirelessly to create a lived atmosphere for fictional lands like Ketterdam and Ravka, with languages, uniforms, mottos and artistic choices invented, from the design of the sets to the costumes,” he added. .

“’Shadow and Bone’ takes place in a very different fantasy world,” explained Bardugo, who is also an EP in the series.

“Think imperial Russia, not medieval England, repeating guns instead of great swords. It’s a story about people being told how little they matter proving what they do. It was amazing to see this story take shape on such an epic scale, the battles, the magic, but also the relationships between the characters, ”she added.
