The government is allocating an additional 50 million euros to secure dangerous crossings. State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven (Infrastructure) in the House of Representatives also said that some unguarded crossing points giving access to one or two houses are eligible in the future.

The money for dangerous rail transitions has disappeared, but they are not all addressed. That is why Van Veldhoven adds 25 million euros for the country's most dangerous dangerous passages and 25 million for unprotected public crossings.

On the insistence of the lower house, the latter sum is also intended for thirty so-called domiciliary bonds. These private transitions are indeed very regularly used, even by people who do not know the danger, and are therefore as risky as public crossings.

In three years, the lion's share of unprotected public rail transitions secured, expects the railroad manager ProRail. The same applies to half of the dangerous home connections. ProRail states that it has entered into agreements with all parties regarding the removal of dangerous crossings. Railway manager hopes to be able to do this quickly with home connections

There are still 113 unsupervised public grade crossings in the Netherlands, mainly in the northeastern part of the country. ProRail hopes that there will be at least 33 less by the end of the year. Security is created or the road is diverted to a guarded level crossing. Railway bridges can be built for hikers and cattle or the so-called walking tubes (a kind of big sewer pipes) can be pushed under the track. There will also be a test with a new system that warns of upcoming trains.

The unguarded crossings are no longer of this time, says ProRail. Trains run at high speeds more often than before and have become quieter, and traffic on the roads is busier. In addition, fewer and fewer road users are still experiencing the unguarded crossing, as there are fewer and fewer. It is therefore dangerous to live, and that is why ProRail wants to get rid of it as soon as possible

Last year, several accidents occurred on such a level crossing without supervision.
