In the first half of this year, the number of migrants attempting to travel to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea decreased by half compared to the first six months of last year. On the coast of Italy in particular, fewer people have arrived.

Migrants seem to relocate partly in Spain. The number of people landing there doubled from a year ago, from more than 6,500 to nearly 16,000.
The passage cost 1,412 people in the last six months. In the first half of 2017, the IOM recorded 2,340 victims in the Mediterranean. The organization warned this week that the number of people wanting to come to Europe is quickly threatening because they fear that Europe will close its borders. As a result, there is an alarming increase in the number of drownings.
