For nearly thirty years he was the benevolent dictator of life (BDFL) in the world's most popular programming language, Python. But now the Dutch founder, Guido van Rossum, is leaving. He is ready for a permanent vacation and takes it. He does not go completely to Python, though.
Van Rossum retires from a courier that he sent today. He is ready to lead the organization: "I never want to fight so hard for a PEP, only to discover that so many people despise my decisions."

Therefore, Van Rossum decided that it was time for "a permanent vacancy of the BDFL position". He also seems to have made this choice partly because of his health: "I'm not going to rejuvenate … (I'll spare you the list of medical problems.)" At the same time, Van Rossum remains available for the organization. For example, he wants to stay as a developer at the moment, and as a mentor for new strengths.
Van Rossum announces that he will not name a successor. Wherever it goes with the non-profit, the former BDFL depends on the main developers of Python. It is not necessary to find a successor: "My opinion is rarely asked, and generally it is not really relevant."
The main problem, as far as Van Rossum is concerned, is that # 39, find a way to learn about PEPs. decide and how new major developers can start. According to Van Rossum, these problems can lead to conflict, although it points out to the main developers that there is a community code of conduct to which they must adhere. "I'll always be there, but I'm trying to let you make your own choices, I'm tired and I need a very long break."
Python was invented by Van Rossum in 1989 as an easy-to-read programming language. The language has quickly become extremely popular and widely applied.
