The Bospop Festival is in full swing in Weert. On Friday night, the festival kicked off with a free music night for campers and local residents.

About 45,000 paying visitors are expected Saturday and Sunday.

This is now the 38th edition of the pop festival. At Bospop, classic rock can be heard. The big names this year are UB40, A-HA, Simple Minds, Billy Idol, Zucchero and Racoon.

Due to drought and heat, the organization took additional measures. This relates to fire safety and visitor health. For example, curbs and ditches were mowed for a short time and many shadow points were created.

There are also buckets of water and sponges to cool people and water faucets have been placed.

The festival will be closed tomorrow night around midnight.

For the American group Venice, Bospop's performance is the second of the day.

Before the festival, they were already playing some songs in the Martinuskerk tower in Weert.

They did it on invitation and under the direction of Carillonneur Frank Steiijns
