A typo can have major consequences, as it turns out. Aliens: The Colonial Marines came out years ago and were received very moderately. One of the biggest complaints: the enemies in the game were stupid and would not challenge you to think strategically. This seems to have been largely due to a simple typo.
The error was posted on Moddb.com, a website where people can download their modified versions, so-called mods, of games. On this site, a user is working to improve Aliens: Colonial Marines, so that it becomes a fun game.
Te (a) ther
It delivers a new version of the game from time to time, but this one change, it came out because it changes the game a lot. The original code contains the following:
ClassRemapping = PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_ AttachPawnToTeather
Anyone who can speak English knows that Teather is not a word. Tether, however, does. The change is quite simple:
ClassRemapping = PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether -> PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_ AttachPawnToTether
Smarter
This change can be made in one of the files in the folder where the game is. It also ensures that enemies become much smarter: they start strategically and take better account of the environment in which they are fighting.
PCGamer has made a number of videos in which the game is played with and without typo. The editor says that the enemies really play much better: they are more aggressive and know less the player. They are still not the smartest, but much better than before the change.
