Cliff Richard wins the case against the BBC | Entertainment

Richard sued the BBC because the broadcaster allegedly violated his privacy by broadcasting in 2014 footage of a police raid on his home. The singer was accused at the time of child abuse but insufficient evidence was found. In June 2016, it was announced that he had not been prosecuted. The judge now says Richard. According to the court, his private life was violated "in a serious and sensational manner".

During the trial, Richard made an emotional report on the impact of the broadcast. He said that he had suffered badly for nearly two years and that his health was seriously deteriorating due to constant stress. Richard thought that the whole world would now see him as a "criminal" and found that the BBC had tarnished his reputation.

Richard, 77 years old, had already arranged with the police last May. A journalist from the BBC had approached the police at the time of the invasion and said he knew about the investigation of Richard. Then, the information on the raid was shared. Richard received damages of £ 400,000 from the police (over EUR 462,000)
