The Water Board of Friesland (Wetterskip Fryslân) is expected to ban the irrigation of grasslands next week. And a ban for farmers should also remain short. Other water plans around the IJsselmeer are still discussing a possible ban on irrigation.
The demand for water from various waterways around the IJsselmeer is still in equilibrium, says Wilma Nabring of Wetterskip Fryslân. "However, we anticipate that demand will outstrip supply in the short term."
Making Decisions
The National Water Distribution Coordination Committee (LCW) will make a decision final decision on the distribution of water between waters on Wednesday, July 25; this will involve decisions at the national level. Category 4 of the Travel Series is expected to come into force on that date. This means that the agricultural sector will have less water because it is less important than the other water use (such as drinking water).
The parties concerned, including LTO Noord, will be informed by Wetterskip Fryslân on Monday 23 July. Other water plans around the IJsselmeer, such as Amstel Gooi and Vecht, also announce that they are discussing a total ban on irrigating.
According to a spokesman for Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier, there is still no ban on irrigation. However, the situation is closely monitored; For example, the influx of salt water must have sufficient back pressure from the rivers.
History
It would be special if there was indeed a total ban of water on the water plans around the IJsselmeer. This was done for the last time in the historical year 1976.
