Facebook is investigating the trade and marketing of the American data analysis company Crimson Hexagon with which it cooperates. Reason are allegations of unauthorized use of the data by the Boston-based company.

Facebook has confirmed after reporting by the US newspaper Wall Street Journal that an investigation is underway and that the company is continuing this search can not see data from Facebook and affiliate Instagram. For the moment, no evidence has been found for unacceptable actions by Crimson Hexagon.

Companies that use Facebook's data are bound by rules about what they do and with whom they share data. Crimson Hexagon has worked in recent years for a Russian non-profit organization with ties to the Kremlin. In addition to the Russian link, the data company also analyzed Facebook user data for various parts of the US government.

The company itself says that it meets the requirements of all its partners. No private data would be stored either.

Facebook broke up earlier this year after it became known that the Cambridge Analytica data analysis company had stored data from some 87 million Facebook users, unknowingly . The data was used, among other things, for Donald Trump's election campaign.

Cambridge Analytica was fired and Facebook tightened its privacy policy in the ensuing period.
