Stolen Rubens and Renoir recovered in Turin

Italian police recovered from a hangar in Turin paintings by the Flemish painter Rubens and the French painter Renoir, which were stolen from an art dealer last April. In connection with the robbery, four Italians and one Croat were arrested last month. In total, there are eight suspects.

De Kroaat appeared last April as a rabbi who wanted to buy works of art for 26 million euros. After signing a contract, the sellers traveled with the fabrics to the Italian city of Monza. In a rented office above the Albanian embassy, ​​they were distracted and the crooks took the paintings with them.

The works of Peter Paul Rubens and Pierre-Auguste Renoir were shown to journalists Friday at a press conference in Monza. The experts will always review the paintings to confirm the authenticity before returning to the rightful owner.

Old flights

At the end of 2015, Rubens' paintings were also stolen from a museum in Verona. These were found in Ukraine six months later. A Rubens work was also stolen from a Danish museum in 2008. According to the VRT, this does not reappear in Copenhagen until seven years later.

Peter Paul Rubens of Antwerp lived from 1577 to 1620 and is the most important representative of the Flemish Baroque. He made a name for himself by painting "full" women, now known as the Rubens Woman. In addition to being an artist, he was also a diplomat.
